Brilliant! You echoed my thoughts and feelings precisely. Personally I think we need to start seeing ourselves as a single, *global* group: Human. Not that cultural diversity and ownership should not be celebrated. It absolutely should be. But humanity has always been a great melting pot of people coming together, exchanging ideas and developing hybrids, both genetically and culturally. There is something racist in saying to one person you don’t get to wear or cook or sing or dance or create art in a certain cultural way because you don’t look like what most people associate with that culture. Especially if it is being done, as you say, respectfully, and in an attempt to learn, celebrate and appreciate the beauty of a culture that speaks to them on a personal level. Who gets to judge who gets to learn, celebrate and appreciate anything?
