If you multiply the current monthly charge for Medicare A&B ($125 approx) by the number of Americans (331 million approx) then multiply that by 12 months you get $496,500,000,000. If you then multiply that by 10 to find the amount to cover her 20.5 trillion in a decade problem, you get $4,965,000,000,000 (trillion) available to defray 20,500,000,000,000. That’s a tall order, but being able to get full coverage insurance for $125 per month would be an outrageously good price. There are obviously some economies of scale available, so I doubt the entire 20.5 trillion would be necessary because in a single payer system the payer can force the medical and drug people to economize in a rational manner, organize treatment communities that can use expensive equipment that sits unused, reform the pharmaceutical industry (or put them in jail) and start over. After all, we taxpayers paid for most of that drug/treatment research and development. It ought to be about time we got something for our money.
