The ugly side
I’m amazed by the curt way young parents present themselves! If times are hard then don’t bring the offspring to this harsh economic world.
The busy night had to be polarised so that I can attend to the sick at least properly. I stopped the cue at 2045hrs so that I don’t have to stay on beyond my hours of practice.
The couple came probably not aware of my kind of practice. I was presented with a lnfant with URI symptoms associated with high temperatures around 39.8 degrees Celsius. As many in the know will not be unfamiliar with Augmentin syrup and antipyretics for the infant. I was amazed tonight to see them return with a bottle spoilt. The reason was-it’s opened,we are not sure if it’s the correct Meds. The expiry date in 2017 is too short,we have not given anything like that before.
The oddest thing is the mention that it was a suspension,so they are not sure if it was supposed to be that way.Anyway child is well now and we don’t need the Med. I see a cream coloured bottle/homogeneous which means it was shaken and left out of the fridge!
I refund the expense incurred-it would have made me sound desperate if I have to explain the situation and that would make me look like a pauper. I would not be surprised if the temperature spikes again because of 1)ignorance 2)smart ‘aleck ‘ parents 3)under estimation of sepsis .I don’t need these people in my practice but I hope everything goes the way I see and I don’t want to accept any duty of care again.
