Becoming a Master Programmer: Consistency is the key.

When I started getting into programming, I came to the sad reality that it is hard — like real hard. I shouldn’t be surprised because work is hard. Anything worth doing is hard. Now the question was, how do I make it?

If you go on the internet, you will find a lot of videos and text giving techniques and ways to become a master programmer, but I have come to realize that it’s not as complicated as we make it to be. As with everything in life, the key is consistency.

Professor Scott Galloway said:

“Your job in life is to find something you’re good at, and then spend thousands of hours to become great at it”

We all choose professions based on things we think we are good at or things that come easy to us. Whether you are a writer, a musician, a designer or a programmer, you must be good at it to some point to attach a label to yourself.

But the thing is being just good doesn’t get you paid, and I believe we all do it to live comfortable lives. Being good gets you noticed, it gets you on the radar of potential customers, but it doesn’t make you special. A lot of people are good, or at least they believe they are.

So how do you become great?

Simple, you have to do it every day. There is no shortcut or trick to excellence, if you want to become a master programmer or whatever field you are in, you have to do it every day.

Don’t get me wrong, doing everyday doesn’t mean you become a machine, working round the clock. You need to understand yourself and the time in which you can effectively work. Even if it is an hour every day, you have to put in the work.

Becoming a master at anything is not about taking a huge jump and landing in glory, rather it is a series of small steps. You might get stuck or confused, it might seem like you are not making any progress. Whenever it gets tough, remember why you started.

I could write all the motivational quotes but none of them will do you any good because motivation doesn’t get you to excellence, discipline does. You need to discipline your mind to keep going no matter what happens.

Remember, DO IT EVERY DAY.

Happy coding!!!
