Why You Should Go For a Cupping Therapy Once in Lifetime?

Cupping therapy is an alternative medicine. It is an ancient form of therapy. In this therapy a therapist places special cups on your skin for a moment to create suction. It is done for many purposes. It helps to recover from pain, helps in blood flow, massage of tissues, well-being and relaxation. The cups used in this therapy are made of glass, earthenware, bamboo and silicone and holds numerous cupping therapy benefits.

History of Cupping Therapy

This therapy is trending now but it dates back to Egyptian, Chinese and Middle Eastern ancient cultures. This therapy is also been mentioned in the oldest medical textbooks in the world, named the EBERS PAPYRUS. It tells about how the ancient people used cupping in 1,550 B.C. However, Chinese cupping therapy remains popular of all the times.

Different Types of Therapy

Cupping Therapy can be done in two ways. There are two types that are dry and wet.

Modern way of conducting cupping therapy is by rubber pump.

In both the types your therapist is going to put any flammable substance such as alcohol or herbs in the cups and will set them on fire and as the fire is all out, and then your therapist will place the cup upside down in position on your skin. When the air inside the cup cools, a vacuum is created which then leads to the rising of the skin and redness as the vessels are expanding. The cup stays on the skin for almost 3 minutes.

Modern Way

Modern way of conducting cupping therapy is by rubber pump. Also, sometimes silicone cups are used by therapists who can be relocated on your skin and this gives a massage like effect.

In wet cupping mild suction is created. After cupping creates suction, then the therapist removes the cup and creates a tiny cut or few cuts on skin and then blood is drawn out. You only get 3–4 cups in the first session or 5–7 cups during the next therapy but that is rare. After the blood is drawn out you will get an antibiotic ointment and bandage to prevent infection. Skin starts to look normal within few days. This therapy removes harmful substances and toxins from the body but it is still not proven. This is called as blood cupping.

Also, there is one more form of cupping that is needle cupping. In this therapy your therapist inserts acupuncture needles on the skin and then cover it with cups.
