The Jim Crow laws began in 1877 and the beginning of the civil rights movements in the 1950's

The name Jim crow came from the white entertainer Thomas Dartmouth Rice who preformed a song and dance that was based on a slave. Dartmouth preformed in black face and acted and spoke wildly. He deiced to name the charter Jim crow. He was not the first white entertainer to preform in blackface but the most popular at the time.

after the civil war many sates in the south passed laws for blacks basic human rights to be neglected.They caused blacks to be segregated from people of no color.An example of one of these laws in the state of Alabama was “It shall be unlawful for a negro and white person to play together or in company with each other at any game of pool or billiards.

After the american civil war (1861–1865) these laws were passed to segregate blacks from whites. They ended in the 50's.

Most southern sates had Jim crow laws.There were about 17 states had these laws.

we had Jim crow laws to separate blacks and whites because they thought less of people of color.
