Layers 2016 FAQ

We’re here to answer any questions that come up regarding the Layers design conference. We’ll be updating this as we receive more questions, so check back in to see what the latest news is!

“Just wondering if layers is targeted to designers mostly, or developers too?”

Here’s a little secret: neither of us are designers. We started this conference to provide a forum for talking about design, and we think this applies to way more people than those pushing the pixels around. While we do have some content that is geared specifically towards designers, we also like to inspire and entertain, and think that Layers is relevant for everyone who encounters design in their professional life.

“I’d love to know more about presentation content, even if it’s not super specific. Technical design advice? Networking? Etc”

We specifically don’t announce information about our content ahead of time, partially to give our speakers the freedom to develop their content up until they walk on stage, and partially because it’s fun to have a little mystery. It’s a single-track event and we want everyone to see everything and experience the joy and delight of seeing things they had no idea they’d ever see.

But to give a more broad idea for what kind of content we program, it’s a mix of technical design presentations, industry discussion, entertainment, and inspiration. And looking at our speaker list, a common thread throughout everyone presenting is that they’re all people who make sh*t happen for themselves and do it to the absolute fullest. Every time we meet with them we feel the urgent need to step up our game, and that’s the takeway we can pretty much promise you’ll have.

As for networking, last year’s attendees were possibly the most friendly and polite group of people we’d ever been around. We still see people keeping in touch with their Layers friends, and it warms our cold hearts.

Any idea of what time the conference begins on Monday? 9AM? sorry didn’t see any schedule on the site yet.

The conference will kick off Monday at 5pm, giving you plenty of time to fly into SF, identify where in your hotel room to charge your iPhone, and head to our registration party to meet all the other people attending Layers.

I’m curious how the scholarships work — who can apply, and how?

We’re now in the process of finding people to sponsor scholarships. From there, we’ll start developing criteria around who the ideal candidates are and publish those through Medium and Twitter.

If you’re a student who would like to attend but doesn’t have the means of buying the $850 conference ticket, send an email to info@bringyourlayers.com and we’ll let you know if you end up qualifying for a scholarship or discounted ticket rate.

I thought this was a conference for chicken owners, and I was pumped. #disappointed @bringyourlayers

While Layers is not specifically geared towards chicken owners, we do not discriminate against those who own chickens. Who doesn’t love a good farm fresh egg? Incidentally, we also don’t discriminate against vegans.
