The weird thing is that if the Trump administration got all of what they wanted (voting history+SSNs), then two things would happen:
- They would have proof that there was no large-scale voter fraud (they would probably keep that quiet).
- They would have information to reach down and harass opponents (delay social security checks, lose college loan applications, etc.)
Plus, in the grand tradition of government agencies, they would probably have an accidental data breach and leak some of the SSN/name pairs. There would only be 129 million of them.
On the other hand, if they get names but no SSNs, they can do what they are doing now, matching first and last names of people in different states to “prove” that they voted multiple times. They would have proof that some folks have traveled to 20 states or more on election day and voted in every one of them!
