Pen (the perfect pen, chosen based solely on its smoothness on the paper and even, thick flow of ink) on paper is tops for me, as well. I can write on my laptop, of course. But because I’ve spent so many years as a journalist, grantwriter and editor staring at the screen and tapping the keys, there’s not a lot of desire to sit there and work anymore. Long hand — preferably outside in the shade — is the best way I know to truly connect with my emotions and get them out into a cohesive form.
