Introduction:

Travis Devine, an apparently unremarkable financial analyst who takes the 6:20 train from New York City to his workplace, is introduced in The Edge. But beneath this exterior is a previous existence as a very skilled government operator. His past and present collide on his commute when he sees a shady deal. He is pulled into a perilous web of political intrigue, espionage, and secrets that will test his mettle and make him face his fears.

Chapter Summaries:

Chapter 1–5: Travis finds Jenny Silkwell dead on the Maine shore after seeing her trade an enigmatic object on the train. Despite warnings from his government handler, Emerson Campbell, he goes to her hometown of Potter, Maine, out of curiosity and a sense of responsibility.

Chapter 6–10: In Potter, Travis gets to know Jenny’s friends and family, helping to piece together her difficult past and discover links to influential government figures. He runs afoul of the local sheriff, who believes he is an outsider with hidden agendas.

Chapter 21–25: As the inquiry progresses, Travis and Alex handle a number of perilous situations, finding concealed gun stockpiles and coming up against armed attackers. They come to understand that the plot goes far beyond what they first thought and touches the highest levels of authority.

Chapter 26–30: Travis’s previous life as a federal agent resurfaces, and he uses his cunning to avoid detection and keep Alex safe. His horrific experiences and the reasons he left his previous life behind are revealed through flashbacks.

Chapter 31–35: Travis confronts Alpha and learns their real identity as well as their role in Jenny’s demise. A dramatic chase takes place, leading to a confrontation that reveals the culprits and their intentions.

Chapter 36-Epilogue: The public is made aware of the scheme by the fallout from the clash, which has significant political ramifications. Travis considers his options for the future, deciding whether to accept a new life or go back to his previous one after considering the emotional fallout from his acts.
