Being the tooth fairy is not easy

Our house has been very busy recently with tooth fairy visits.

On Thursday night Grace gave her tooth an extra wobble and bit into an apple to get it out. I don’t know where she got this idea to bite into an apple but she has done it with every tooth and it works…

So just before I go to bed I think sh*t I almost forgot, and dash around looking for a pound in the dark. I don’t know why I’ve gone into panic mode, there seems to be some pressure being tooth fairy.

With the pound in hand, I creep into Grace’s bedroom and manage to successfully slip the coin under her pillow but I can’t retrieve the tooth. I make a swift exit and get in my bed telling Col “I can’t get the tooth”. “of course you can just try again” says Col. “Hmm, easy for you to say, I’m thinking” I’m the one creeping around like the secret lemonade drinker (do you remember that advert, I’ve got the song in my head now).

Ok attempt number two, lets do this, I creep into her room on my tip toes successfully dodging the remnants of a full afternoons play with her monster high dolls, you know the ones with the heads and hands that pop off. “Mummy? Why do you keep coming into my room?” I look round “who me? nah this is the first time I’ve been in, just saying goodnight darlin’” I retreat unsuccessfully without the tooth. Damn it.

I get back into bed. “I can’t get the tooth Col, she’s awake”. “of course you can, I know you can do this, just tell her to turn over and go to sleep. That’s what I’d do” explains Col. “well thanks for the motivational chat, but she is awake” still thinking in my head by the way… “Go on just go and get the tooth” he says.

“Right ok, that’s it” I say with a very determined walk now back into Grace’s room over the monster high dolls over to the bed and under the pillow… “What are you doing under my pillow Mummy?” “Gulp! Nothing love, just plumping up your pillow, making you comfy”.

I walk out “Night love” I have to admit defeat on this one. The tooth fairy will just have to come back another night.

Fast forward to the morning…

“Mum, mum guess what?” “what?”I reply. “The tooth fairy came last night and left a pound but she didn’t take the tooth” Grace says excitedly. “Oh, really. I wander why? maybe she thought you’d like to show it to everyone like Harvey has with his.” I say in hope I’ve kept it going a little longer.

I’m loving these magical times and I’m gonna miss them in a few years. So make the most of your tooth fairy shifts. I like to add glitter and sparkles and tiny tiny letters to keep their imaginations going.
