Through this website students and instructor can actually have a brainstorming about their ideas.

4. Write a short paper based on the chapter’s opening case. Answer the following questions (Information Technology Project Management, 7e, page 140, Opening Case):

a. What do you think the real problem was in this case?

- I think the real problem in this case is that Nick Carson doesn’t have the potential in handling the team and project. Maybe his potential suits as software integrator and troubleshooter for he had a technical background and he easily examine the technical problems and critical flaws.

b. Does the case present a realistic scenario? Why or why not?

- Yes it does. It is usually happen in most cases where there are instances that the one who leads the project has an absence of responsibilities.

c. Was Nick Carson a good project manager? Why or why not?

- No he’s not. He doesn’t have the qualities of a good project manager due to lack of concentration and difficulty to handle the team and especially the project. He doesn’t provide the things that is highly needed in order to make the project successful.

d. What should top management have done to help Nick?

- The top management should give Nick a hints about what is the right thing to do so that he will be aware and he can provide his shortcomings toward the team and project.

e. What could Nick have done to be a better project manager?

- He should concentrate on managing all the aspects of the project and hand over a precise schedules or detailed plans so that people working around him will notice about what was really happening in the project. He must also demonstrated the significance of creating better plans and then following them in project execution.
