Ledesma Audiological Center Inc. — Innovation in Hearing Aid Technology
Over the years, hearing aids have evolved, from the big and heavy components used back in the day to the much smaller and virtually invisible ones used nowadays. Manufacturers and researchers have developed today’s hearing aids to become more sophisticated and to fit the needs of its wearer. There are also different kinds and classifications of hearing aids.
The directional microphone is considered to be one of the biggest improvements in hearing aid, as it has solved one of the major complaints of hearing aids users. It improves the signal-to-noise-ratio of speech when there is loud noise occurring at the background.
One of the latest breakthroughs in hearing aid technology is the invention of Mukund Venkatakrishnan. When he was 14 years old, this teenage boy from America visited his India. There, helped his grandfather get fitted and tested for hearing aids. Venkatakrishnan realized how expensive hearing aids are, especially for developing countries.
This led him to the creation of a cheaper hearing device. Now 16 years old, Venkatakrishnan has invented a unique hearing device that can test a person’s hearing capability and programs itself to become a hearing aid. In creating his hearing device, he spent only $50. It can be sold in market for affordable price and if ever the earpiece gets damaged it would not cost that much unlike the hearing aids manufactured by big companies.
As of now, Venkatakrishnan is still developing the device to make it smaller and lighter, so that it could fit a person’s pocket and lessen the stigma associated with wearing hearing aids. His device could definitely have a broad appeal on the mass, so he’s hoping that an organization that is connection with the developing countries would have an interest in producing and distributing his hearing device.
