Mirror

You asked me to look in the mirror once. You stood behind me, both of us undressed, and you put your hand across my chest. With the pointer and thumb of your other hand, you held tightly onto my nipple and smiled — the corners of your rose-petal lips slightly upturned. You made me want you and you made me wait. I’d wait until time ended, for you.

You were rough with me; you turned me so that I faced you, looking up and wondering what you were thinking. You kissed me, hard — your heavy tongue pressing into my open mouth. We made love then and the earth shook. You were both sunshine and rain on my weathered and beaten body. You destroyed me and brought me to life all at once. You took the breath from my lungs then you resurrected me.

When the Moon slung its silver canopy over the night and through the open window, your breast illuminated white gold — little mountain ready for mining. It rose and fell with your breath, drowning in moonlight. I wanted to drown in you. I held my head to your glowing chest and closed my eyes; your life rang through my ears. You woke then and commented on the Moon. It was so bright, you said. Let’s open the window and let her in.

You told me I was your Moon. I was everywhere that night; like the Moon, I lit you up. Together, we worshiped you. Slender roads and soft valleys, streams for exploring. By the light of the Moon, my fingers — tiny explorers — discovered your form. I was impatient and you giggled at my teenaged ambition. You did this to me; you made me feel simultaneously old and young. Baby Moon, you called me. You cradled me in your arms as I tasted your breast. You poured life into me. I was the moonlight but you filled me up, like ocean waves crashing into an undiscovered sea cave. You left me salty and wounded, but refreshed and alive.

My love, do you know that you are the Sun? I am the Moon, and without you I do not shine. You are my light, but thank you for being so humble. I will be your mirror, Sun, and reflect the goodness you bring. Let your heat warm me, and I will light up your night.
