Lee University will welcome Elevation Worship on Thursday, Feb. 2 to perform during chapel, conduct a worship workshop, and continue the spring semester’s U-Church series.

Dr. Brad Moffett, director of chapel music, looks forward to the band leading worship during chapel.

“Elevation Worship has emerged as a leader in writing and performing the songs the church wants and needs to sing in corporate worship,” Moffett said in a release. “Their passionate heart for worship and desire to see God’s people unite their voice in praise has made them not only popular, but a powerful voice in the world.”

In addition to Thursday’s performance, the band will lead a free workshop at 4 p.m. in the Conn Center that same day. The event is open to students and community members who wish to attend, and will function as a Q&A session moderated by Dr. Randy Sheeks, the assistant professor of church music.

“We just think this is a great opportunity for our students to interact with such a successful band,” Sheeks said. “So while they’re here we were just looking for ways that we could provide a teaching moment for our students.

A performance seminar credit will also be offered for music students who participate in the workshop, according to Josh York, the director of facilities management and U-Church concert promoter.

Sophomore music business student Jesse Crabtree is one of many students excited to attend the Elevation Worship workshop.

“I’m hoping to learn a lot more of what they’re trying to accomplish as a group and the production of their upcoming album,” Crabtree said.

Elevation Worship is based out of Charlotte, North Carolina. The band members are a part of Elevation Church and have performed all around the world. Their sole vision is to perform songs that “lift up the name of Jesus and reflect what God is doing in and through the people of Elevation Church,” according to their website.

U-Church is a free event open to the community and students, with seating determined through a first-come, first served basis. Additional information about U-Church can be found on the Lee University website. For questions about the workshop, contact Joyce Lane at jlane@leeuniversity.edu or 423–614–8347.
