I agree. Nobody understands an addict except for another addict. That’s why I’m studying to get my license as a mental health counselor so that I can work with addicts. I’m hoping in a few more years that I’ll be able to work in a rehab setting and then one day open up my own practice — either my own rehab or just a private practice where I work one on one with addicts. I know from personal experience, in the form of years of therapy, that a therapist who has never been an addict can never really understand what it’s like and is therefore ineffective working with addicts. I hope to use my years of experience as an addict to help others who are going through what I went through. :)
