There are lots of interesting points here. I’ll add homocysteine to the list at my next blood test. B12 is my main concern, as a 90% vegan, so I do take a spray supplement.
Really, though, we have seen a steep increase in incidence of Alzheimer’s and dementia in the junk-food eating parts of the world, not specifically in the vegetarian or vegan populations.
Vitamin B12 is produced by soil microbes that live in symbiotic relationships with plant roots. I’ve seen it suggested that animals have B12 in their guts, from the bacteria in the dirt they consume. So couldn’t we do the same? By not washing all the dirt off your mushrooms and carrots, for example, you may ingest some of the same dirt that animals use.
