Curating a New Literary Canon
Rebecca Makkai

Perhaps they felt limited by wall space… What I would love to see, and play with, is a pile of 8 1/2 by 11-inch cards, each with an author and stats, like an overgrown baseball card. There would be thousands of them, and they would fill a basin like one of those ball pits that kids love. There would be room for every American author, no matter how (or why) obscure, and they would all be equal in presentation. And I would jump in the pit and thrash about and read and thrash about some more and read some more.

Or maybe use edible wafers, like Pop-Tarts. Remember Mark Strand: “There is no happiness like mine. I have been eating poetry.”
