How to set up Google Search Console
If you’re a business owner (or really any person with a website), setting up Google search console should be a no-brainer. Why? So more people can find your site! Google search console is a tool that helps you track basic analytics, do keyword research, identify site issues, and grow organic traffic. Taken directly from Google’s description:
“Search Console tools and reports help you measure your site’s Search traffic and performance, fix issues, and make your site shine in Google Search results”
And we all want to shine!
Navigate to https://search.google.com/search-console/welcome
Enter your business domain in the Domain (left, gray box) and click Continue. The following screen will pop up:
Copy the text that is in the
Log in to your domain provider. I’m using www.bluehost.com, so the following instructions will be specific to the Bluehost dashboard. Any other providers should have similar interfaces.
Navigate to https://my.bluehost.com/hosting/app#/domains and click the
manage button to the right of the domain you want to verify.
Scroll down until you see the
TXT section and click
You will see something similar to the screen below. In the
Host Record field enter
@. In the
TXT Value field enter the entire string you copied from Google search console verification. Leave
TTL to the default value.
Save! It can take several hours for the DNS to propagate, so be patient! After 4–6 hours return to Google search console and click the
Verify button to verify your domain and access the all the Google goodies that will help you grow your site and your business!
