Is social media fatigue a real thing?
According to Dr. Pragya Agarwal, 80% of people reported feeling stressed and overwhelmed about their social media every day. More than 52% of small business owners confirmed that they were ‘feeling low about their business’ and 45% felt that ‘perhaps no one wants what I am offering.’ What started this social media fatigue? What can we all do as users and business owners to overcome this issue?
Many visual layouts like Instagram can be deceptive and “the pressure to be perfect” feels like a never-ending task. The struggle to keep a high following and connecting with influential bloggers/influencers is just the tip of the iceberg. This creates trouble for small business owners who are investing more time into their social media platforms rather than creating new products. At a more personal level for such users, issues related to anxiety and stress take place because of the constant comparisons made online. But fear no more, Dr. Agarwal has the answers.
There are five ways to overcome social fatigue and they’re all amazing! First, step away. Take a break from social media if needed, it is ok. There are many other ways to connect with people who matter to you and loyal customers who love your work. This will allow your mind the time to focus on what really matters: your business, yourself, your friends, your life. Next, be selective. Try not to focus on every social media platform at once. Choose one or two and stick with them, managing several platforms is not necessary. Third, less is more. Post a photo or tweet when you have something you really want to say, disregard an algorithm. Altogether, be creative. Join a dance class or pick up a sketchbook and draw — do what you really love. All things considered, be authentic. There is nothing more beautiful than a person (or business) that can truly express themselves. Block out the noise and set your own path, many will follow.
Don’t let social media run your life.
