Artificial Intelligence is Creepy at Best

Remember when that evergreen cleaner Irona from Richie Rich would malfunction from time to time and the whole Rich household would just be frozen in time? Artificial Intelligence (AI) is pretty much that. Although we have perfectly created a means and mode of work efficiency, we could be “completing” our processes with horribly disastrous effects.
Just the other day, we were implementing a lead generation tool to use on our social media platform. It promised us “targeted audience” growth along with other newfangled bells and whistles. Needless to say, we were sold. What we didn’t factor in was that this was artificial and not human intelligence driving the tool. Let’s just say that no matter how automated your process is, keep an eye on it. There’s a reason factories employ HUMAN BEINGS to monitor steps in their process. There’s no level of artificial intelligence that can ever replace a human being’s rationale.
The Bicentennial Man was all cool and everything on-screen. Now just imagine what would actually happen if a human-created being were to walk Main Street. Most of hell would break loose. We’re not even talking about legal implications here, but the general weirdness of the situation. How do you monitor an AI being? What laws apply to them if they breach it? Humans will be affected by AI interactions, what happens then? So many questions, so few answers. Thankfully, AI software hasn’t replaced human-driven processes just yet.
We did say AI is creepy at best, so what is it worst? Litigious. That’s not pompous of us to say if you think about it, because there are going to be a bevy of unusual legal issues that will surround AI. Every new thing always comes with a legal side, no matter how awesome. AI will be no different. You don’t even have to leave the legal realm for this. As we write this, AI has permeated the legal ranks and is now assigned with performing tasks that were the sole domain of experienced HUMAN attorneys. This line between human and AI will become blurred as time goes on, but law will be there to save the day, hopefully… if AI Robot Attorney doesn’t incriminate us all.
