Press Releases Presents: SHOULD SEGA RETURN TO THE CONSOLE GAMING MARKET

SHOULD SEGA RETURN TO THE CONSOLE GAMING MARKET?
In this in depth discussion I am going to try and cover both sides of a touchy subject in gaming: The heated debate of whether SEGA, the former “King of Arcade Games” and game console maker, should make a comeback into gaming. To start off I am going to take side of “No they shouldn’t’ but at the same time present factual evidence from credible sources to refute the anti talking points. Lets begin:
The 10 most common Anti Sega hyperbole talking points reused over and over again:
1. “Sega has no money for a console”
2. “Sega barely makes any good games”.
3. “Sega signed a contract NEVER to compete against Nintendo or Sony anymore”
4. “Sega is dying and nearly bankrupt”
5. “Nintendo should and can buy Sega”
6. “The old Sega is long dead”
7. “Sega lost all their game development talent”
8. “Arcades are dead and never coming back”
9. “The Dreamcast failed and that’s why they pulled the plug.”
10. “Sega games are all on various platforms, what will make people prefer or buy a SEGA console over others they can already play Sega games on”.
For each talking point on why Sega SHOULD NOT return I will refute it with a pro talking point and credible sources that can be checked out and verified by anyone anytime.
1) SEGA has nearly $10 billion dollars in cash flow. compare this to Sony and Nintendo:
SEGA: http://www.morningstar.com/stocks/PINX/SGAMY/quote.html
Nintendo: http://www.morningstar.com/stocks/PINX/NTDOY/quote.html
Sony: http://www.morningstar.com/stocks/PINX/SNEJF/quote.html
2) Yes they do. They’ve published and developed PLENTY of great games. You just never played them nor do you know where they are. Since you HATE Mobile games, don’t use Steam, don’t play PC games and delude yourself that Arcades are all dead. That’s where most of SEGA’s best titles are. Plus the good games like Bayonetta, Full Auto, Chromehounds, Alpha Protocol, Binary Domain, Alien Isolation, VC, you completely ignored and never played any attention to them. Furthermore, for every type of game Nintendo ever made, SEGA made an equivalent to it plus they are sitting on franchises many gamers wish they would bring back such as Phantasy Star Online or Skies Of Arcadia.
3) No such contract exists. SEGA also holds no exclusivity contracts for games as they are currently a third party publisher. Sega also still actively supports The Master System in Brazil. The console was never discontinued there. Both hardware manufacturing and game development for The Master System in the Brazilian market still exists today. Just take a look:

4) Not true. Please check these links and do more research next time:

5) Nintendo is a smaller company than SEGA and the link I showed you, proves that Sammy is a subsidiary of SEGA. That is OWNED by SEGA. They are no longer a parent. That Nintendo cannot buy a company with $3 billion in capital, because Capital is not the actual worth of a company. There’s Assets, Equity, Bonds,Shares, and Net Worth. All of that regarding SEGA Holdings,Co,Ltd adds up to $47 billion.
6) That’s a good thing. Because the old parent and holder of SEGA, CSK Holdings was notoriously poorly run and nearly ran the whole company into the ground when they invested in non gaming ventures. That its old President from 2000–2001 Isao Okawa actually almost destroyed the company because he wanted Sega to become a non gaming brand. That, if it weren’t for Haijime Satomi, Sega would have eventually went out of business in 2006. That SEGA is a larger, more profitable company today than they were 20 years ago.
7) Not true. Check these out:

Also: Yu Suzuki, creator of the Shenmue series and still very much involved with game development at SEGA. This is how he got a license to make Shenmue 3 for PC and PS4
8) Also not true. Take a look at these

9) No, the plug was pulled by the NEW CEO Isao Okawa who wanted Sega to restructure into mostly a non gaming company and secondary publisher.
10) Sega games belong on Sega consoles. Because only SEGA knows how to design them better on their own hardware. Sega is also an ARCADE company first and foremost, not a publisher. Sega knows how to lower development costs and budget on games. Sega consoles would cost much less, look better and more polished and more powerful. Sega consoles are never build from scratch. They are always based off of existing Arcade technology. Thus the experience, passion and playability belongs only on a SEGA console. It’s simply not the same on other platforms. SEGA is the only gaming company that Nintendo ever took seriously. Much how Sony and Microsoft have a huge sales battle every generation, Nintendo only ever got competitive with SEGA. As any smart consumer knows: Competition drives prices down and quality up. It all around benefits the consumer. It would also help Nintendo take there head out of there ass and stop the nonsense they have been pulling since the Wii launched.

Now we come to the most important part: Consumer trust. While SEGA has absolute massive rabid fan base year after year begging for them to come back and make arcade games again, a good portion of the gaming community is still sour about the disastrous Saturn launch and failure coupled with the broken promises of the Dreamcast. While Dreamcast is one of the best Game consoles ever made and was forward thinking…. Many consumers were burned and that feeling of distrust doesn’t go away simply because time has passed. It might help, but it doesn’t magically make it go away….
I won’t ramble on anymore and instead give the pros and the cons:
Pros:
*Sega coming back would fix the hole in the market where arcade games should be
*Would help make Nintendo more competitive and smarter about console business
*better games and more of them
*Sega has a history of being innovative and making games no one would think to make “Trend setter”
*Sonic Adventure 3 (joke)
Cons:
*Poor Consumer trust due past console failures
*Even though SEGA may be financially stable as shown in links above, consumer assurance that Sega will support a console fully for a full generation might be low
*More crappy Sonic games
*Could destabilize the market with four consoles since the market barely handles 3
