Those Entry-Level Startup Jobs? They’re Now Mostly Dead Ends in the Boondocks
Lauren Smiley

Great flipping article! I was one of those switch careers (Interior designer), end up at a tech start-up in support then move up and up ultimately ending up in my current role within product. There is one detail which you noted the positive but there is also a negative, that detail being salary. You get hired low and unless you have some awesome managers who truly value you, you never fall within the salary range for your role which they are offering new hires.

My 2 cents. Take advantage all the free education and certifications offered to you. Once you reach the role or a step close to the role that you feel is where you want to be, test the market. Go see what other companies place your value at so that you can go to the table prepared and confident knowing that you have choices.
