Introduction | My foray into UX design

I’ve always been interested in art, from the time I could fingerpaint. Drawing was always my main passion. Over the years I realized that I wanted to pursue a lifelong career in the arts. After starting out in school for 3D Animation, then switching my major to Graphic Design and graduating from a small design school in southern California, I was hired at a local newspaper as their layout and advertising designer. I also took on many freelance graphics projects for colleagues and businesses in my local community. I love print design and will always be passionate about it, yet with time I can see the design and technology industries really starting to blend together and I’ve become extremely interested in UX Design.

User Experience Design is a facet of the industry that struck a chord with me and truly inspired me, as it is limitless. The ability to interact with people/users and apply those interactions and research to creating a product that will help people is extraordinary. Collaborating with other UXers, designers, anyone really, and coming up with answers to users’ needs (even needs they may not even be aware of yet) is a powerful concept. The times and the industry are always changing, growing, rapidly advancing, and I see UX Design as something that can only expand as well — just like the human thought process. I also appreciate the psychological aspect behind UX; there’s a certain amount of empathy and understanding that goes into it and I find that beautiful and inspiring — people helping people.

This blog will outline my experience over the next several months as I venture into an immersive User Experience Design course at General Assembly in Washington, DC.
