The problem with this article is that it equates education with childcare. Education is just that, education. It is not meant to be a substitute for childcare and never was. Longer days are not good for education or children. If a parent needs longer childcare hours, maybe they need to set that up in advance.

Alternatively, many first world nations are moving to shorter work days. Maybe America needs to look seriously at that alternative instead of burdening children with longer school days.
