Moss

Frozen water floats molded
into minuscule hexagons covering
the cold truths of this cruel world,
and all wrongs are forgiven but
for a transient moment.
The machinations of the masses
stall, grinding not quite to a halt,
though perhaps just long enough
that we can recall how small and
inconsequential our grand plans are.
We cannot ignore the laws that bind
the stars to their orbits. And I cannot deny
that same gravity that draws me closer to
you. The longer the exposure,
the harder it is for me to move away.
So I stay.
Here we will remain,
laying among the mossy ruins
of a thousand possibilities
that never came to fruition.
And yet I would never trade the days we’ve spent
for a single unfurled leaf of a dream without you.
