What is Design…?

If someone had asked me earlier about this question, I would have said that “ Design means Design only, what else we can add to its definition, right? after all, it is a single word having a complete meaning in itself. “ Any person will say this only in Layman language, but only after I have enrolled myself to a UI/UX design program, I have understood what the actual meaning of Design is.

In a simple way, we can describe Design as an amazing amalgamation of Art and Science that fulfills the main functionality of any product with ease. Now we all tend to categorize things if they are good or bad, useful or not, and what not so, for the very basic understanding, we can say a good design should be easy to understand and easy to use okay… so, let’s just see things around yourself with this perspective.

Punch Machine

I am sure we all have used it in some phase of our life be it a student life or working in the office, right? but haven’t thought about it like this before I mean just look at it, what a nice handy structure to make an equal size hole at an equal distance. It also has a small covered space below it where all the cut pieces can be collected, no messing up, easy to use, easy to hold, isn’t it a good and useful design?… no doubt it is…!!!

Multi-Layer Hanger

So, not a big fan of cupboard organizers then you might have not seen it, but as a user of it, I can say it’s a really useful design. My family has allotted me a very small section as a wardrobe and upon that, it should be neat and maintained every time my mom sees it, so with the help of this I can have more space as one hanger hold more than a normal hanger. It is a good thought of design.

Nail Cutter

Ohh!!! what a basic product which everyone will find in their home, but have you closely watched it how it works, I mean sure you will have other work to do instead of watching a nail cutter, but just give it a thought how easily it does work, such a tiny example of science into the design

YouTube Watch later

Yes, I want to see this video but, wait for a second I have to take my classes first…so, let me just save it to watch later…isn’t it helpful that you don’t have to go and search for

it again, just go to watch later and you have your list to see.

Telegram Stickers

What it will be if you only have an option to express with words only, not really a good idea right? So, here we have so many emojis and stickers to express your feeling without even words and have fun with your friends and loved ones, that’s really nice.

So, we have seen quite a few good designs that are all around us in our day-to-day life making it a bit easier for us to do our work, let’s just have a look at some of the designs that are not that appropriate.

Charger

This is just a normal charger but with a bad design, its design is not making it easy to use as its back body is too big as compared to its front part which makes it difficult to balance when it is plugged in. Its main function is to charge but because of this defect, the charger gets to loosen up again and again and causes a lot of trouble in charging.

Cabinet Holder

The carpenter did this by saying it’s a new design, everyone has the same, but do you think it is a good design? I don’t think so… if you have to pick something from the 1st shelf you have to open the 2nd door first then only you can open the 1st one, that’s not supposed to be.

Jum Suit

Ohh a dress!!! what to do there is so much variety in clothes, but it should be comfortable to wear and to go on a full day, in this dress it is a one-piece and that too the upper and lower are joint it gets lit difficult and uncomfortable when it comes to going washroom when you are out somewhere so, not a perfect design maybe.

Radio

I used to listen to the radio a lot, now a day we have different music apps in replacement of radio, but still some days I feel like listening to it although it has one problem to it, you can’t use your Bluetooth headset for this, only normal earphone or you can keep it on speaker and listen. Here you can see the Bluetooth earphone was connected till it says “please insert the

earphone.” I think it should have some option for Bluetooth also, it would have been a good design.
