The Digital era has brought us the benefit to get everything on hand quickly in just a few chunks of minutes in our own comfort. But, it has its own cons on the other side in the form of E-waste. E-waste is nothing, but the waste generated from the end of life of Electronic, Electrical & Computing Appliances. It is one of the fastest-growing wastes in the world with the evolution and adaptation of technology. It involves appliances & devices used at homes, offices, railway stations, airports, hospitals, etc. Many of us are not aware of the effects of E-waste. In this way, it will be harmful to human, natural resources such as land & water resources like rivers, ponds, etc. if it is not handled properly. So let us deal with this disadvantage of digitization in an effective manner.
As a consumer, we need to invest our money in quality products that last longer. We need to realize that our short term profit is actually a big loss for ourselves and nature as well. When we purchase a low-quality item due to low cost or any other reason, the item tends to damage or fail due to its short expected lifespan.
Another thing is, we should try to repair the out of warranty items when damaged. It is tempting to buy a new one but as a responsible citizen, we should always ask ourselves “is it unavoidable to buy a new gadget? This will increase e-waste.” Also, it is possible to buy used electronic items. When on a tight budget, one can get a quality product in refurbished condition. This also reduces e-waste.

As a company/producer, we should keep a check on the quality of the product and try to increase the expected lifespan of the product. We should try to avoid the planned obsolescence.
As a company, we should provide more after-sales services such as replacement and repair, so that customer is not forced to discard the product. The company can also try to reduce the electronic waste generated during the manufacture of the product.
Also, it is better to have a RoHS certificate for our product so that after the product is discarded, it does not harm while recycling.
The government should arrange consciousness programs and campaigns for the public regarding e-waste and make some arrangements to collect the e-waste separately from the other waste. The government needs to focus on updating standards and guidelines for the manufacture and commercialization of electronic, computer, and electrical products to maintain its quality and make it Eco-friendly. The government should encourage the public and private sectors to make the R&D facility stronger for e-waste recycling and commercialize the efficient recycling process to recover more percentage of materials and reduce the effect of e-waste.
As one is not enough to handle this evolving issue, many hands with different minds and visions altogether can make it possible.
