Leaving Town
What if I wrote you as a sunset?
Would you sink into the bay
Or would you be far away in the great Montana sky?
Because you were so big.
I didn’t notice at first
how the sky was changing color
And suddenly, you were there,
Vibrant color
you stopped me in my tracks
caught my breath somewhere between my lungs and mouth,
and all I could do was marvel.
You grew brighter and brighter as you crested below the horizon.
The sky is pale-beautiful residual color.
You are out of sight.
