Eight Interesting Modern Inventions in IoT
Are you a technology enthusiast? If so, you may be well aware of the new technology approach making waves across the globe, known as the internet of things (IoT for short). Going in detail about this new technology approach may take a while as I may have to explain what “things” are and what sensors are and how they interact with a wireless or wired medium with the help of cloud-based management apps.
I can get into minor details about IoT though. It’s enabled by a large number of things which transform to intelligent objects with the ability to measure and transmit data about themselves.
As the first step, we equip an appliance with an intelligent sensor that has the capability of measuring the data related to the appliance and transmitting the data to a remote smart device such as a smartphone or a laptop. The remote device can also be a cloud-based application that forms an interface for managing the appliance. Now, we connect all these things together using a wireless or wired communication solution, such as 4G LTE that comes with a huge bandwidth.
It may be difficult for a layman to understand the effect of these technologies put together. But in simple terms, this little approach lets you automate a large number of things. For instance, you could monitor your microwave sitting in your office cabin, using your smartphone. The same way, you can operate the entire lighting of your home, the security systems, your car, or your TV from the comfort of your couch or remotely from your office. Home and industrial automation is a key target area of IoT development. Now that may be interesting to a layperson, right? Let’s check out some cool new smart devices in the IoT market today.
Zano

Zano is an intelligent nano drone created from their incredibly successful Kickstarter campaign.
It’s a personal drone that you can fly using your smartphone, as simple as that! While it’s primary use, as the developers speak, is to do away with those long-arm selfies, you know better!
Razer OSVR VR Goggles
Renowned gaming laptop maker Razer has come up with a nice pair of virtual reality goggles, known as Razer OSVR (Open-Source Virtual Reality). OSVR is a ground-breaking open-source ecosystem created for virtual reality.

Oculus Rift
Oculus Rift is an already popular virtual reality headset. While Oculus Rift as shown below may be quite an unweildy and inelegant appendage upon your eyes, its experience can be charming to say the least.

A consumer-oriented Oculus Rift is still in development, and should be available to you soon for that immersive in-game experience that every gamer is looking for.
Gogoro Smartscooter
An electric scooter that goes from 0–50 km/h in less than 5 seconds and a top speed of 95 km/h can’t be too bad! Gogoro Smartscooter is an enchanted follower of Tesla, perhaps. Gogoro intends to build recharge stations in a large number of urban spots in order to make sure that the scooter can be recharged easily.

Each battery swap is expected to add 100 km to your travel, which is not bad at all for such a well-designed scooter. Indeed, Gogoro points to a future when our transportation will be powered by electricity rather than oil.
Mercedes Self-Driving Car
You may think that fully automated self-driving cars that socialize with other vehicles in real time, learns the route, and adapts to the traffic may be a thing of the next generation. Not at all! The self-driving car concepts are already here. Audi already has a self-driving car permit in the United States for its concepts studded with several cameras for a detailed 360-degree view that enables the machine to thunder forward without any problem.
Other companies that have entered into the automatic self-driving car industry include Google, BMW, Ford, etc. This year’s CES saw Mercedes’s beautiful automatic driving car concept shown here:
Sereneti Cooki Robot Chef
Check out this awesome robot chef created by startup Sereniti Kitchen.
Cooki is a simple robot arm that stirs the foodstuff to create a sweet dinner for you. You only have to put in the ingredients and the recipe, and the perfectly cooked dinner can be the output. Although now in a limited stirring motion form, Sereniti has the idea of a completely autonomous cooking mechanism that can replace human chefs in the near future. Won’t that be marvelous?
Netatmo Welcome
Welcome is a home camera developed by startup Netatmo that recognizes human faces for you. Welcome simply sits on your shelf and detects motion and faces of visiting people. It updates you in real time who has come into your home on your smartphone. Quite wonderful, isn’t it?
Stunning HD recording option, 130 degree view, night vision capability, and a beautiful Anodized Aluminum cylindrical body make Welcome a welcome treat.

Petcube Wireless Pet Camera
Want to know what Fido’s up to when you are not around? Simply put up the Petcube at home. This is a tiny wireless pet camera with the option to remotely transmit data to your smartphone. It also has a laser toy that you can use to engage your pets remotely. On the whole, a nice and handy invention that you can take around with you.

Conclusion
IoT and IoT services are definitely here to stay. Internet of things will transform your home, office, and the industries in ways you can’t even imagine. Keep track of every development in IoT to know what awesome gadget is coming to the world. The creativity and fun in building IoT gadgets can be quite exciting as well.
