Gisto? Gis…no.

Before starting CentUp, and leaving my full-time job to do so, there was Gis.to. A weekend project of sorts.

The site was meant to address the problem of, “not having enough time to read long-form content.”

The solution? A directory of well-written abstracts (or Gists) that summarized the key points of information within long-form articles that would offer readers a glimpse into what a further investment of their reading time would yield.

The ironic outcome? Well the people who didn’t have time read, also apparently didn’t have time to write. Gis.to still lives (if anyone wants the domain…it’s pretty awesome) in the catacombs of the internet. Since the days of Gisto lots of automated news summary engines have popped up. I still personally long for human-powered versions of these apps, but alas, we are all pretty lazy compared to machines.
