Part 1 of 2: Word Vomit on Life After ShopBack

The following piece is about my learnings as an SEO/Content intern for ShopBack Singapore (not so much of the technicalities but lessons that came along with it), and a recount of days thereafter as I came to terms with the end of summer. :’)
For those who don’t know, ShopBack is an online platform that empowers e-consumers with smarter purchasing decisions by providing cash rewards in the form of Cashback for your online purchases.
Editor’s note: unplanned word vomit, so this might just turn into a 2 part series!
It was an uneventful Monday morning, the immediate work week that followed after I’d concluded my 6 months stint with ShopBack as an SEO/content intern. It was also 10.15 am, I recall — as I laid unfazed by the time told on my phone, I couldn’t help but to let awash by a wave of uneasiness.
But why?
A) My day would usually begin right about this time with a coffee/earl grey tea run with a colleague or two. So at this point without coffee or any resembling form of caffeine in my system, physiologically speaking, a bad day was already imminent.
B) For the past 6 months, I’d be planning out my work schedule for the entire week on Mondays. Now that I have all the time in the world to do anything and everything, the sudden freedom from all these obligations had instead left me in a state of distraught.
C) It’s been a long time coming since I’ve had this much time alone. ShopBack was always bustling with life on weekdays, and weekends were weekends. So you can imagine the void that I’ve had. And you can probably guess it by now that I’m still struggling to fill that void, which probably led to this write-up.
TL;DR so far: The end of the 6 months long internship was (and still is) unsettling.
I can see how this is quickly turning into a narrative/word vomit that I hadn’t planned for, but stick with me for a bit.
Never would I have expected myself to dabble with e-commerce or even dared imagine a shot to work with a startup that has been highly raved about in the local e-commerce scene.
So, to rationalize what I’ve learnt from working in a startup, this is it — my feeble attempt to gather my thoughts and penning them down . For those who might be looking to explore this whole new vista of opportunities in a startup, here are some takeaways you can expect!
Stay tuned for PART 2!
