Apple alarm clock redesign

I use my iPhone alarm clock every day and I don’t understand why do I have to spin the wheel with numbers instead of simply typing them?

Now (not very good)
What is the purpose of the interface? For me it’s an extra unnecessary step.

Concept
I already have the number in my head and type it in a second.
