Unfreedom Of Speech

Chapter 0

For reasons erased from history, the last words were spoken on the dawn of the new millennium. At the dusk of the old world the spoken word was deemed too dangerous by the Committee. So it was smothered with bureaucratic efficiency, much in a same way media destroyed history centuries ago. The vote was cast in secret and the verdict announced with thunderous applause. It was clear it would take time to adapt for the change. First all teachings of speech have been erased and forbidden. Months later the Committee announced the eternal silence, the last words were poetic, tragic, and iconic, written over months by the greatest linguists of the Establishment. The chairman took stand and uttered:

“Et non est silentium”

And those were the last free words ever said.
