Colombian Mail Order Brides

Latin mail order brides have become a very hot market lately because Latin America is close to the United States, many American and Canadian men speak at least a little Spanish, and Latin women are super sexy.

From the Rio Grande to Tierra del Fuego there are twenty countries in Latin America, but for the mail order bride industry none is more prominent than Colombia.

That comes as a surprise to many men whose image of Colombia is still stuck in the 1980s.

The negative image surrounding this South American paradise is instead due to the fact it’s been portrayed as a country riddled with violent crime, guerilla warfare and controlled by drug lords.

Now, before you go making any sweeping assumptions it’s important you know that Colombia is not the country you think it is. In fact, it’s gone through a renaissance in the last decade alone, with the collapse of the Cali and Medellin cartels.

Obviously the TV show “Narcos” doesn’t help with the country’s image, but the drug cartels are now a distant memory for Colombians. Spoiler: Pablo Escobar dies at the end.

In addition to the drug cartels begin crushed out of existence, the government and FARC rebels signed a peace agreement in June 2016, ending a “civil war” that had gone on far longer than anyone wanted or expected.

What we’re getting at here is that Colombia is now a safe place to meet and date a potential mail order bride. Crime levels have dropped to the point that Bogota, Cali, and Medellin are now safer places to be than most major cities in North America.

Certainly much safer than places like New Orleans, Chicago, or Washington, D.C.

This shouldn’t come as a surprise when you look at the mass shootings taking place across the United States on a regular basis.

The only real risk involved in visiting Colombia today is that you might never want to leave. Once you finish reading this article you’ll understand why that might happen to you.

Colombian Women — What Are They Like?

You probably don’t need us to tell you how gorgeous the majority of Colombian women are — you’ve seen all the pictures, or you wouldn’t be here in the first place.

The stunning looks are thanks to a diverse background of European, African and native South American heritage. This rich ethnic mix gives you women with a pout to die for, mocha skin and curves in all the right places.

Are they safe to date? Absolutely. Colombia is a very conservative country, with strong religious beliefs. 70% of the population is Catholic, with the other 30% being Protestant.

What this means is that Colombian women have a very traditional outlook on life, so you are looking for a traditional lady you are safer dating a mami than you are dating women from certain Eastern European countries.

One of the first things you’ll notice about women here is how friendly they are, but without being easy. If you’re planning a trip to Colombia to get laid in a hurry then you might need to rethink your strategy.

Too many men see video clips of Carnival season and instantly assume that every woman here dresses like a showgirl on a daily basis. That isn’t how things work.

While Colombian women are traditional in their outlook on romance and marriage, that doesn’t mean they’re puritanical. Sex is something they enjoy, and they are highly sexualized, but only once they get to know you.

Oh, and they’re also known for having a pretty serious jealous streak, so don’t provoke them by messing around with other girls while your Colombian girlfriend is in your company.

She’ll protect “her territory” as she sees fit i.e. you.

It’s worth mentioning that the vast majority of Colombian women are family oriented, and will want to talk about marriage if you’ve been dating for more than a few months.

This is doubly true if you meet a Colombian girl who’s single and in her late 20s or early 30s — most of her friends will have gotten married and had kids by the time they were 25.

Basically, you won’t have to try to convince them to talk about marriage — they’ll probably beat you to it.

Women here also take care of their bodies, taking a lot of pride in their personal appearance. This is a bonus because you’re not going to find very many Latina couch potatoes here, and if you do they’re probably already married.

Here is a great example of just how stunning Colombian women are:

The Prepagos

While dating genuine Colombian girls is a pleasure you won’t forget in a hurry, we have to let you know about the ugly side of dating in Colombia: The Prepagos.

These are girls who appear to be just looking to date a gringo when you first meet them. What you won’t realize, until you’re a few thousand dollars lighter, is that they’re basically freelance escorts.

They won’t look, act or sound like it — even if you question them about their family or education they’ll have a convincing lie ready to roll off their lips.

How do you spot a Prepagos? She’s the one who’ll insist on eating at the most expensive restaurants and having drinks only at exclusive bars.

She won’t tap you for cash straight away, but she will build up to it.

Dating a gold digger can be fun as long as you know what you’re getting yourself into because you can play here the same way she’s trying to play you.

The average wage there is just over $200 per month, so some girls can give in to the temptation of taking gringos for everything they can get. Assuming that you’re just there to get laid by whatever girl you meet, and then leave without an explanation or any warning

Getting to Know Your Colombian Date

Just like any other dating situation — including dating North American or European women — do most of your thinking with your big head, and not the other one that keeps trying to distract you from any kind of logical thought.

What we mean is that it pays not to be naive when you’re in any foreign country, even if the women have a reputation for being honest, intelligent and friendly.

Some key questions you need to ask your prospective date are about her education, family background, and where she works.

Being unemployed shouldn’t be a deal breaker, but if she sounds like she’s making up stuff about her family or her education, then you’re most likely dealing with a Prepagos.

What you’re trying to figure out here is whether or not the girl you’ve got the hots for is actually interested in you as a person, or just what you can buy for her.

You can save yourself a lot of potential headaches by learning some conversational Spanish. This is a useful skill to have because it saves you from being scammed by everything from the freelance escorts, to taxi drivers.

An added bonus here is that a genuine Colombian girl will be interested in learning more about the English language, and you can benefit by improving your Spanish at the same time.

If she’s genuine she’ll want you to meet her family after your first few dates. Don’t freak out if she suggests this — it’s all completely normal, so you need to take it in your stride.

What Do Colombian Women Want in a Man?

We think Colombian women would agree that TLC said it best: “No, I don’t want no scrub”. No Colombian woman wants a deadbeat, so don’t dress or act like a guy who relies on food stamps to survive.

Don’t beat yourself up about being a gringo though — the women here are more than happy to meet, date and marry American or European men.

They’ve got really good BS radar — developed in their dealings with local Casanova’s — so don’t try telling lies.

Your Colombian girlfriend will expect you to be well dressed, clean and at least a little bit macho.

They have a thing for macho guys here, so if you’re not a natural alpha male do your best to fake it, but without being arrogant or bossy.

What 99% of women here are looking for is a guy with some level of financial stability, somebody she can trust, and who is serious about having a relationship with her, ideally leading to marriage and kids.

So, don’t panic if you’re not a Chris Hemsworth or Idris Elba clone — she’s more interested in the man underneath than what she finds on the surface.

And if you’re a little bit older than her, that’s cool too. Most Latinas don’t think men have really grown up until they’re in their 30s.

The First Date

Try to take the lead here in organizing the date, but ask her to recommend a restaurant that she likes.

Be neatly dressed, but don’t go nuts on your appearance. You’re going to need enough money to pay for your meal, her meal, and her friend’s meal. Eh? What? Her friend?

Yup, buddy, it’s a tradition for a Colombian girl to bring a chaperone with her on a first date.

There are two main reasons for this. The first is that she wants her female friend (usually a family member) to approve of her choice in a man, and the second is for her own safety.

It might sound a bit Amish, but it’s actually a sensible move for women to make when meeting a man who is relatively unknown to her. So, you’ll need enough money to cover the entire night for all three of you, plus taxi fare home for your date.

But you want to follow her home for some late night horizontal jogging?

Well, there’s some bad news here in that she’ll be living at home with her parents, and very few decent Colombian girls are going to jump into bed with you after your first date.

Some will, but they’re the exception rather than the rule.

If you want to up your dating game and make a real impression on your future-bride-to-be, then learn how to Salsa, even if you feel you were born with two left feet, or that you dance the same way as everyone’s grandfather does at a wedding.

Music elicits passion, passion brings movement, and movement creates Salsa. It’s something you have to take part in when in Colombia because it’s the best possible ice-breaker you can have in your dating toolkit.

It’s a good idea to discuss your date in advance, so there are no unexpected surprises on the night. Just don’t be offended if and when she says that a friend of hers will be tagging along.

Be cool about that and win some brownie points.

Staying Safe

Most cities in Colombia are completely safe during the day but don’t go wandering around on your own late at night.

This is the same advice we’d give to any guy traveling on his own around Europe, so this isn’t a reflection on how safe Colombia is or is not.

The “old town” areas of most cities are best avoided late at night and don’t carry large quantities of cash around with you.

Colombian Romance Tours

Planning a trip to a foreign country to meet a woman you barely know requires a lot of work on your part.

If you’d rather settle for a “package trip”, or what people call “romance tours”, then that can save you a lot of travel planning headaches, and you’ll still get to visit Colombia to meet the woman of your dreams.

Trips of this type usually last an entire week, with organized social nights and unlimited personal introductions to single women.

There are lots of romance tour operators out there, so the best way to pick one is to check out the reviews and feedback left by their previous customers.

Here’s some genuine feedback from the romance tour operator we’re happy to recommend:

Colombia is light on rules and big on fun. Most guys don’t come here, which is good for me because it makes me a lot more exclusive down here. It’s great to be able to enjoy some time with some beautiful women.

I came here for a vacation, but met somebody without really trying. The women here are beautiful and honest. I want to tell as many people as I can back home that the media gives Colombia a really bad rap.

Hi! Colombia is great and you guys should come down and try it. It’s a lot of fun and you won’t be disappointed. The company is very professional and the trip was a lot of fun. I’ll definitely come again.

Traveling to Colombia

Actually getting to Colombia is really easy if you’re living in the United States because flights leave from international airports throughout the southern states.

Even better is that a return flight ticket only costs about $300, and you can fly from Miami to Medellin in about 3 hours.

A number of international airlines serve Colombia, including KLM, AeroMexico, Air France, Lufthansa, and others.

The main international airports in Colombia are:

  • El Dorado International Airport
  • José María Córdova International Airport
  • Rafael Núñez International Airport
  • Alfonso Bonilla Aragón International Airport

Are you excited about visiting Colombia yet? You should be. After reading our guide you know it’s safe to date what some people would call a “Colombian mail order bride”.

But they’re just women who are tired of being single and eager to meet a nice guy.

If you need a little more inspiration I will leave you with some of the girls over at A Foreign Affair who are actively looking to date and marry foreign men
