Basketball is one of the famous sports known in the Philippines. Because of the perks it has, many dreamed to conquer the court and play professionally. And in the country, collegiate basketball is a big deal.

Ricci Paolo Uy Rivero is one of the famous college basketball players in The Philippines. He was born in Ilagan, Isabela Province and stood 6 feet and 1 inch in height. And spent his first 2 years in college playing for Green Archers in De La Salle University. As of 2019, he is now under the roof of UP Maroons.

Famous Young Athlete

They say girls dig athletic men… I say that’s true in Ricci’s case.

Ricci Rivero is also an online influencer for gaining thousands of followers on his social media accounts. He was also the most tweeted athlete in The Philippines last 2017. The guy has gained popularity since then. Not just because of his looks, but also in the sports community because of his unarguable skills.

He was also cast for Otlum. It’s a 2019 suspense-drama film about a group of friends who stayed in a haunted house for a dare. Get the notion there, huh? Is this the start of his showbiz career? Probably.

Rising Rookie at the age of 20

Rivero has been playing basketball since the NCAA under his former school DLSU. His brothers, Prince and Rasheed Rivero, are both basketball players. Prince itself was awarded MVP for NCAA 89.

I guess being an athlete runs in the family.

Ricci was also awarded as the Most Improved Player for UAAP 80 Men’s Basketball Tournament. He is also part of the National Team under Gilas and was also praised for his performance in FIBA 3x3 U23 World Cup 2018. Last year, he had his first game under UP Maroons wearing jersey number 16. He had pretty much adjusted to his new school and team.

Overall Thoughts?

I’ve seen Ricci played basketball once when I accompanied my friend to one of his games in San Juan and unexpectedly, he’s good.

He knows his sport and is pretty good at it.

Before, I only know him as one of the famous young athletes. Ricci has been featured to some social media posts online, which got some girls pretty hype (like my friend). He got some solid fan girls out there as well.

My view of Philippine Basketball is mediocre. I don’t idolize nor watch it that much unlike the NBA. I just feel like Philippine Basketball career is more onto political and business side than having aquality game. And seeing someone who gets to improve that fast and is still aiming for the best version of himself is kind of refreshing. I wanted to see more of him, especially his participation in the National Team.

And I know, I wasn’t the only one waiting.
