The Day I Decided To Make Food My Weapon

A true story on how I discovered food from a whole new perspective…

If I would love my girlfriend as much as I love food, I would marry her instantly. Food keeps us alive. Food connects us. And food will never get ‘out of style’, which makes it universal. When we are sad, we like eating chocolate or ice cream. We adore food so much that we become extremly fat, risk or mental and physical health just in order to consume more if it.

The current generation is one of the first generations that never has to worry about enough food on the dinner table. And thus, we don’t appreciate it anymore, which is okay to some degree but makes me think about how we approach food in general.

Because of food not being the reason anymore to get up every morning, we use it in different ways. We eat less of it, even though we have more of it, for the sole reason to lose weight. And, we eat tons and tons of protein in order to develope a body like Arnold Schwarzenegger.

For many years, I had weight problems because I simply loved eating. Still, if you ask me today, if I rather would eat meat or vegetables, I would chose meat any single time. I hate most healthy food from all my heart and that feeling will not dissapear, just because I tell myself so.

I started dealing with my weight problems in a completely different way which interacts perfectly with my personality: I am extremely competative in seriously everthing. When I went to primary school, I had to walk down a long street. I hated it to see anyone walk faster than I do. As soon as I spotted someone who walked faster than I did, I started walking faster than him/her.

The day, I got rid of my weight problems, was the day I discovered that food is my weapon and that I can be competitive about it as well. I loved eating candy bars, honey nut cheerios, cheetos, burgers, ice cream (!) and everything that tastes delightful. I still sometimes eat all those dishes but I developed a new feeling: pride over someone else. Everytime I see a person biting into a burger and me drinking a green juice, I feel the intense satisfaction of winning.

That strategy doesn’t work for everyone. Don’t do me. Do you. But, it is a possible approach you can take!
