I know it’s kind of a later response, but the United States was once a society that used to celebrate the lynching of Black people by selling postcards of their evil deeds. It’s not just one or two people doing this, it’s a whole congregation participating in communal murder and celebrating it.
The people who celebrate, or at the very least, turn a blind eye to police lynchings — Wilson’s murder of Michael Brown and leaving his body exposed for hours is reminiscent of those events — are the literal and figurative descendants of those people.
