PDO threads are on average 4–6 cm Polydioxanone sutures that Lift and tighten sagging skin tissues. They are sterile, colorless and biodegradable, used for a non-invasive facelift effect.

The growth of the global aesthetic threads market can be attributed to the growth in the minimally-invasive procedures, lower risks and low recovery time. North America captures the largest threads market which is FDA approved for the past few years. Women just love the idea of lifting the laxity of their skin without having to go under surgery, it may explain why Threads treatments are often covered by the media and have gotten much exposure across all social platforms.

How it works

The threads are introduced into the deep layers of the skin producing instant skin lifting, and cellular renewal through the production of collagen. Your skin is now stimulated to produce new collagen and elastin, and new blood vessels which in turn improve skin microcirculation. Sinmontaniousely, the PDO threads cause the fat tissues to contract, producing a skin tightening and facial slimming effect. I have seen this sliming effect in few patients and I truly love the results.

The procedure

After the administration of topical anesthetic, the PDO threads are inserted via needles into the different layers of the skin. Once inserted, the threads anchor the skin providing a lift of the facial contour upwards- all it takes is 30–60 minutes depending on the areas treated, and how many threads are used. .It lasts up to 18 months. discomfort level -is mild. The PDO thread lift is very versatile, allowing practically all areas of the face to be treated, especially the jowls and neck. In one session 20–50 threads are used depending on your needs and pocket.

The strategy of placement of PDO

A good plastic surgeon is much like a talented sculpturer who knows how to direct the PDO threads and layer a clever matrix for better support of the skin, improving thickness in the right areas, and optimal contouring of the jawline. I asked Dr. Georgios Kechagias a plastic and reconstructive surgeon from Kolonaki Athens to share with us how this matrix arrangements of treads work:

“PDO threads produce collagen and isometric tightening without stretching the skin. Dr. Kechagias places the threads in the face according to the effect he wants to create. In my case, he explains the marionette lines are from loss of volume mostly. In order to correct these lines, he focuses on the jawline area placing 5 PDO threads on each side and then adding another 5 to contour my jawline/this will lift and tighten the whole area within the next 2–3 months.

When working on the skin quality one must think in terms of rows and columns much like a matrix or you may think of it as a strong net placed under a sagging skin. Dr. Kechagias adds that threads are usually the last resort before undergoing a facelift.

Expectation

The improvement can be as good as 50–70% when compared to surgery — not bad after all, if we take into account the minimal downtime and low cost.

Cost -can vary between 15–20 euros per thread.

Cost-effective ?

Absolutely yes- if you take into account the fact that its effect remains for 18 months, and when combined with other non-invasive therapies such as Mesotherapy, PRP, and Microneedling-your skin with look youthful, much tighter while maintaining a fresh looking glow.
