It’s not $1,226,000 unless you’re Kylie Jenner

I’ve been going back and forth between staring at the ceiling and scratching my head hoping a big bag of cash would magically appear under my bed because no one is hiring due to the pandemic and rent is coming up again.

But we all know life doesn’t work that way — unfortunately.

In all seriousness, I’ve been thinking about how to make more money using social media, and I thought to myself: Instagram! I’d have a bunch of followers and I can endorse brands!

Sounds good on paper, right? But here comes…

Don’t know what to write about? We’ve all been there before

Unless you’re my client telling me what to write and how to write it, most days these days feel like my topic ideas seem to be disappearing from my drawer.

I’ve been scratching my head, watching Buzzfeed Unsolved and just waiting for the lightbulb on the top of my head to light up but it just isn’t happening.

Usually I’d go out and walk around like one of the tips I wrote about on this article:

but with the Covid-19 pandemic, it seems like a not-so-smart idea.

Poetry #11

Believe it or not, I’m not usually the one to shake, car rides don’t give me a headache, and not a lot could give me a bellyache.

What I’ll tell you though is that I’m one of the prisoners in Allegory of the Cave — the one afraid of change. Plato would knock me out cold if he knew I stared at a wall for nine years without chains.

I’m afraid I’m becoming like my father — reckless and obsessive. One little difference: I choose my mistakes. That means he drank because of addiction, and I drink because of personal…

Safety first before coming out of the closet

I’ve been living in another country for a couple of months now, and surviving mind you. Aside from the difference in weather — I’m from the Philippines, and Toronto’s weather is killing me — there is obviously difference in culture.

As you may have figured out, this article is focused on being part of the LGBTQ+ community. When my socially awkward ass actually started making friends here in a foreign land, of course the dating life questions started to arose:

“Do you have a boyfriend at home?”

they would ask. I would normally just shrug, smile and act coy about…

Nobody wants to look like a loser

You’ve dropped off the last of the boxes of things your ex girlfriend has left in your apartment, and now you’re just laying in bed feeling like there’s literally a hole in your chest; you know why it’s there but you just don’t know what to do about it.

You grabbed your phone hoping that there maybe a text from her but there’s none so you scroll through your old photos and fell asleep while clutching your favorite picture of the two of you tightly on your chest.

Ever since the two of you broke up, waking up felt such…

For all you poets out there

Poetry is an art form that has been with us for thousands of years. The earliest poetry ever recorded is believed to have been sung or recited as a way to remember history, genealogy, and laws.

Many of the poems that survived the ancient world have religious context to it, whether it be a prayer, a song of praise, or just stories.

According to History, The Epic of Gilgamesh is largely considered the oldest known poem ever written. …

When I first decided to write here on Medium, the original plan was to make this sort of a political blog. Literally the first piece I’ve posted here was about Trump:

but of course, that didn’t last long, obviously, I barely post any political content here on Medium; in my opinion, Medium isn’t the right platform for it but that’s just me.

The beauty of Medium is that we could write whatever the hell we want and still make a couple of bucks from it, provided that you know how and where to promote your articles:

Recently, I’ve been writing…

#1 of the ‘favorite quotes from an author’ series

For the last couple of weeks, I’ve been trying to regain my love of reading books. The last time I read a book was last year, and I remember really enjoying that book but for some reason, I cannot, for the love of God, finish another book after that.

I’ve always said that I’d be completely contented with a job where I could just read and get paid, and we all can, if we want it enough:

but I’m apparently in a phase where the things that used to bring me…

Maybe they’re around you and you don’t even know it

As explained by Dr. Mariyam Ahmed to Global News, emotional manipulation is when someone tries to manage the emotions of another person, or exert influence over someone else’s behaviour for self-serving purposes.

We all have seen this in different forms, and might even had an experience with emotional manipulation ourselves.

I’ve seen this in relationships, sadly, more than a few times. It’s always the other half twisting up stories to make the other person feel bad for something he/she didn’t do — ring a bell, anyone?

It’s a common household guest too; parents manipulating their children to do something they…

A toxically parented’s plea

My first ever memory was clothes being thrown down the staircase along with a woman crying indiscernible from where I was standing, or maybe that’s just how she was crying.

Growing up, I didn’t know what it was or if it was even real. It was just something that was always in my head ever since I can remember and popped up in my head from time to time — I just set it aside as a dream.

Later, I found out through my remaining family that it did indeed happen. The woman crying was my biological mother, and that…
