The Art of Authenticity without Authenticity

A self examination at the new buzz term called “Authenticity”

I just heard this new term called “Authenticity” and my first reaction was saying, “Oh, you mean be yourself.” But apparently this is what marketers are chasing the new trend, as if this was ever a fad or fashion.

It seems there is a lot of energy and focus and effort on trying to be “Authentic” but the irony it should not take any effort at all, to be yourself. In the similar article I wrote about the “Art of Marketing without Marketing” I feel that if every new entrepreneur or business owner or just a person start taking some time to do self-reflection and examining their life and look within themselves, to look internally, instead of listening to the external, the business environment will change in a positive way.

When you try to be something you are not, and you know deep down it is not you, you expend so much energy, fighting against who you truly are, and what fires you up with unlimited passion. It takes so much effort to put on a perceived image, when what really matters is that the YOU inside you is what the world needs. The real you that does not listen to anyone but your heart. When we realize we do not need to go after everything, capture every piece of data to analyze or put metrics on, and focus on aligning who we are with the work we do, life will be more interesting as we embrace our true self living inside us, waiting to burst out onto the world, and express its true nature of joy.

You will never get many to be on the same wavelength with you, so don’t try. It’s not worth it for not being you. Who you are will eventually resonate with some, and all you need to start is one. One person who gets you can make all the difference to move you forward in life and business. So whether you use profanity or are un-politically correct or have funny quirky behaviors, if they make you feel alive, if you know that these peculiar traits are what makes you move life effortlessly, then use it to craft your work. Use what you have as tools to do positive change and results for the world. Turn your seemingly negative qualities into something useful and beneficial for society and the Earth.

The one thing that you can have courage in is being yourself, being your true self regardless of the criticism or what others think of you. Know thyself, be yourself, and live your self. You won’t need to be “Authentic” because people will see the real you with zero effort and that you are brutally honest with yourself and that you love yourself to accept your self inside you, where your heart is dying to tell you. Trust you and only you.
