If all of these incidents were concentrated in a few areas in one or two states we would be looking at a situation similar to the northern Border States of Mexico which by all accounts is an active war zone.

The NRA can be dealt several blows legislatively, it can have its charitable status revoked making it a non-benefit for donors, it could be legislated out of existence, though that might infringe on some level of free speech so not a good idea. It could and should be banned from supporting political campaigns and lobbying, that alone would leave the debate up to the congressmen and senators without them having to worry about the support or lack of support to their re-election fundraising, which is a huge problem to getting political will to fix this insanity.
