Thank you for this great article!
As a woman who has been playing D&D since the early 1980s, it would have been nice to see a woman educator included in this list. Role Playing games are far more egalitarian than they were when I first started playing, but as this article inadvertently demonstrated, women are still underrepresented in many ways.
As a 51 year old woman who plays Fortnite, the one thing I’m noticing from this article, and the subsequent responses, is a complete absence of any mention of girls! Do girls have similar issues regarding emotional control and age appropriateness?
I remember sitting in Ms. Bloom’s 4th grade class and calculating on my fingers how old I would be in the year 2000. Thirty-three seemed SO OLD! Now I can’t even remember what I was doing when I was 33.
Meanwhile, Billy Squier is a volunteer gardener for the Central Park Conservancy…
The day I watch an American professional football game is when…
….both teams are comprised solely of women ….who are paid as much as their male counterparts ….who are cheered on the sidelines by a squad of scantily-clad Jason Momoa clones
Try being a vegan while a soldier in the US Army in the late 1980s. Whooo boy…. that was (not)fun! Subsisting on mess hall string beans and mashed potatoes for two months was the diet plan from hell. Somehow I managed to survive, and I’m still a vegan today.
I share your fascination of fish. I’ve owned aquariums of various sizes throughout my entire life. Would love to see your TEDx talk on fish bowls!
If you’re curious, the chineswifes.com website is registered to Xiao Ma who lives in Corona, CA and they appear to be associated with a Marshal Imports in Norco, CA. (WHOIS database FTW.)
Oh gawd. This article should come with a PTSD warning. My first job out of high school (1985, thankyouverymuch) was a bank teller at a drive-through window. After a year I received a whopping 10¢/hour raise. How I managed to last 2 years is a mystery, especially considering the fact that I was later diagnosed with dyscalculia (inability to remember numbers).
Yes! Thank you for articulating so eloquently exactly what I’ve been thinking every time I see any of these people on TV!
Also, I will LOVE YOU FOREVER if you tell me your secret under eye concealer. I’ve had dark, deep set eyes since I was in 4th grade. I go through through concealer faster than toilet paper! :-D
