Angela Bassett has some of the most iconic movie lines in film history and she’s our fierce, regal Queen of Wakanda. She’s beauty in the story of a beast, and she’ll light your car on fire if you try her! Here are my top five favorite Angela Bassett performances, in very particular order.

Honestly, it’s been a minute since I’ve seen this movie. But Vampire in Brooklyn is one of the first films I ever saw Angela Bassett in. Although, it was meant to be a horror movie, there are comedic aspects in it, and so, it has been categorized as comedy. But, I have always thought Vampire in Brooklyn was meant to be scary, I remember watching it as a kid and it being scary me!

Put a microphone in the chat if you recall when we were young, and on the weekends VH1 would air The Jacksons: An American Dream on repeat all day. 🎤 🎤 Surely this performance helped secure Angela Bassett for her role as Ramonda, Queen Mother of Wakanda, and every role she played as a Mother figure in her career. And again, she’s got some iconic lines. “Go to bed Joseph!!” -Remember that? 😂

After being snubbed at this year’s 95th Academy Awards, Angela Bassett continues to show elegance, class, and how to always be a winner.

In a time of great turmoil after the loss of Black Panthers, Chadwick Boseman, Angela Bassett embodied every characteristic of Queen of Wakanda with strength and poise. Her presence in each scene of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is powerful. Leading Wakandans, (and the real-life cast still grieving the loss of their colleague and friend) Angela Bassett’s performance as Queen Ramonda is breathtaking and unmatched; especially in the first half of the film. Like many, after her second Oscars snub, I won’t be watching Academy Awards.

Waiting to Exhale is a Letherbinge Classic 🏅. Angela Bassett co-stars as Bernie in this coming-of-age drama, which tells the story of four thirty-something year old women navigating careers, friendships, and figuring out life and love with men. It’s a drama, comedy, romance mashup-let’s call it a “Dromcom”.

Bernadette is the rawest and realest we’ve seen Angela Bassett, as this film holds some of her most iconic scenes and lines, which are still widely discussed, re-created, and replayed to this day.

Arguably the greatest portrayal of a music icon in a biopic ever — wait! I had to circle back, because Jamie Foxx has the greatest portrayal of a music icon ever-*in my Kanye Wast voice* — In 1993, Angela Bassett gave us the story of Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Legend, and world icon Tina Turner. This is movie that made me recognize the acting great acting talent that is Mrs. Angela Bassett!
