6 Easy Ways to Drink More Water

The human body is up to 60% water. Water is necessary for flushing our bodies, regulating our body temperature, and providing nutrients for every cell in the body. We lose water throughout the day through urination and sweating so it’s important to re-hydrate.

There’s no denying that drinking water has a lot of benefits. Being hydrated makes you feel more energized, boosts your metabolism, and keeps you feeling satisfied. Water keeps everything in the body running more smoothly.

Experts recommend drinking at least half your body weight in ounces of water. But that can be easier said than done.

Here are six simple ways to add more water to your day:

1. Start your day with a glass of water.

Yes, even before your cup of coffee. That first glass of water is going to flush your body and boost your metabolism. Drinking a glass first thing in the morning knocks out 8 ounces of your recommended water intake before you’ve even started your day.

2. Keep water on you at all times.

You’re more likely to drink water if it’s readily available to you. Keep a full reusable bottle near you during the day and you’ll drink more water without even thinking about it. If you’re more inclined to drink more out of a straw, use a bottle that has a straw.

3. Associate water with something else.

Maybe you take a few sips of water every time you get up for a bathroom break. Or maybe during the work day, it’s every time you switch to a new task. Take something that you’re already doing anyway and drink water whenever you do it.

4. Take intentional water breaks.

If associating water with another task isn’t working, or you still think that’s not doing the trick, take intentional breaks to drink water. Set a silent alarm on your phone for every hour. Or build it into your calendar.

5. Drink a glass of water before every meal.

Drinking water is going to fill up your stomach, making you feel fuller without eating as much. Meal time is a good trigger to associate with drinking water, and you’ll feel more satisfied without eating as much food. It’s a win-win. This is an especially good strategy if you’re looking to lose some weight in the process.

6. Add flavor to your water.

It can be hard to increase your water intake if plain water doesn’t do it for you. Jazz it up with lemon juice or use an infuser bottle to infuse fresh fruit into your water. There are plenty of ways to make water more interesting without taking away from its benefits.

Drinking more water can be easy with a little effort. Adding more water to your daily routine can provide so many benefits to your day. You’ll feel more awake, find your brain functioning more clearly, and eat less throughout the day.
