The United States Supreme Court is the highest court in the land, and this year, they will be deciding on important issues that polarized the country. The US Supreme Court has a season dedicated on deciding about the future of some of the most important laws of the country, and this year, six controversial laws will be decided upon by the justices. This will be an important part in the history of the United States because the judicial branch will be giving their decision regarding some of the most polarizing laws introduced by Donald Trump. One of the things that will be decided by the US Supreme Court is the rumored addition of a citizenship question based on the increasing number of illegal immigrants crossing the border to reach the country. The separation of church and state will also become an important matter on the decision of the US Supreme Court. The date when these issues will be heard is still confidential, and the information will be released once it has been decided by the justices. The public are clamoring for a clear and decisive hearing made by the US Supreme Court, and most people are saying that it will be an important day for everyone to ensure that the people will be the winner after these cases are heard and a decision is made. Normally, most of the cases that are being heard by the US Supreme Court is scheduled in the beginning of the year. They will be releasing information every Monday, and then it will happen by the end of June. The following information shows the cases that will be heard by the US Supreme Court.

1. During the Trump Administration, a proposal was made to include citizenship question on the United States census. People who have been supporters of the immigrants for a long time have stated that this move is racist, and the US Supreme Court should use their power to stop it from being implemented. The census citizenship question changed the way people look at some of the most crucial citizenship issues on the country, and hearing it at the US Supreme Court is timely because of the stance of President Donald Trump on the issue.

Oral arguments were already performed inside the Supreme Court, and based on the results of the exchange of ideas, it seems like the justices who are identified as conservatives will be siding with the proposal from President Donald Trump. This could result to a tight voting number of five versus four. Based on the Census Bureau, there will be 6.5 million individuals who will be ditching the census if this information will be required. The people who will be affected by this decision from the US Supreme Court will try to avoid the census because they can be caught by the immigration police. This is the plan of the current president to curb the number of people who are illegally entering the country. Nationalist people are supporting the move of the president because they do not want to accept any more illegal immigrants into their country and it is believed that this move by the president will give him a boost to a lot of Americans.

2. Racial and political gerrymandering is also an issue within the United States, and one related case will be decided by the justices. It all began with the cases filed in the states of Maryland, North Carolina, and Virginia. The people who filed these cases are trying to challenge the establishment, and they wanted to have a clear decision on the future of the American society. The case filed in Virginia is about racial gerrymandering, and the case was previously referred to the state legislative districts. However, it was later referred to the US Supreme Court to have an accurate decision making result.

Another case of gerrymandering that will be decided by the US Supreme Court is filed in the states of Maryland and North Carolina. A new congressional district is being proposed, and the people who are opposed to this decision are saying that it will put an imbalance to the voting power of these two states if a separate congressional district will be created. Gerrymandering is a wide term which means to separate a race or culture based on several factors like state borders. This has been applied to the Middle Eastern countries right after they have been liberated from the colonial powers that has been holding them hostages for years.

3. The third case to be discussed by the US Supreme Court has to do something with the separation of church and state. The origin of the case was due to an atheist who feels offended by the cross memorial built in Maryland to honor the military personnel who died serving the country. The war memorial’s cross has been standing there for years, but because some people feel offended with the cross, a case was filed to remove it. Later, another issue was brought up, and it is about the constitutionality of a cross being built on public land. The oral arguments for this case has started, and the justices are looking for the best answer for those who are involved.

Putting a cross on a memorial was never an issue in the past. It was only brought up today because of the rising number of people who are offended with any religious symbols. According to those who filed the case to have the cross removed, the federal government have asked the US Supreme Court to allow the cross to sit on public land and never try to remove it because it will be a sign of disrespect to those who died fighting for the country. They argued that the actions of the government are unconstitutional, and they should be reprimanded because of what they are doing. The US Supreme Court denied that the federal government is directly controlling them, and they are only doing what is the best for the welfare of the majority.

4. The fourth major case that will be decided upon by the US Supreme Court concerns the procedure involved in selecting the jury for the cases. The original case was due to an inmate who was put into the death row by a prosecutor who is suspected to be racist. The prosecutor is believed to be judging the inmates based on their skin color, and it will be a dangerous precedence if all of those who will be working on the judicial department would have a racial prejudice against the inmates. Those who filed the cases wanted the US Supreme Court to decide on the matter and determine if the inmate will be saved from death.

The inmate has been prosecuted six times in Mississippi, and those who are trying to defend the inmate are saying that they will never be able to attain justice if the prosecutors are only thinking about themselves and the things that they believe it. As a prosecutor, they should see past through the race of a person involved, and decide based on the evidences presented on the table.

Those who are against the death penalty are stating that these kind of cases is what makes them opposed to capital punishment. Sometimes, innocent people and those who only committed small crimes are being put to death because of racial prejudice. There should be a change in the system as these people argued, and they are also pushing for an end in giving the people a capital punishment.

5. The fifth case heard by the US Supreme Court is about the hunting case in the state of Wyoming. It was voted on a five-four decision, and the institution sided with the Native Americans. The tribal territorial rights are also being heard at the US Supreme Court, and the institution granted the request of the Native Americans.

In the past, the Americans of European descent have shunned the natives away from their homeland. It resulted in a trail of tears, and the Native Americans vowed that they will never allow something similar to happen again, and they reiterated that they will fight for their rights.

6. The last case that will be decided by the US Supreme Court is about the case filed by Erik Brunetti against the US Patent Office. He tried to trademark the word FUCT, but it was denied stating that the word is too offensive. However, Erik Brunetti took his case to the US Supreme Court to get their final decision.
