Budgeting is Good, But 80% Is Bringing In the Money (And A ROI Isn’t Just About the Returns On An Investment Made)

You can’t budget yourself into wealth, financial security or even comfort. If you want lots, or even “enough”, you need to bring more in. Money management tweaks are possible, and awesome to make, and unnecessary expenses should go. …But, scarcity-mindset — the felt need to count every penny — takes more than it gives. Having your head elsewhere than on giving.

How long do you need to spend turning nickels for the time spent to equal more than you could possibly make? What about how your mindset affects those you want to influence to see and go for abundance (whether that’s your kids or your email list). What about enjoyment; you never want to cut enjoyment from your life (and lots of enjoyment can be had through things with cost).

In the face of any investment, ask yourself what the actual return will be. …But not just on making it but on avoiding it. on making it or not making it. Not eating out, might not be about the expense of “eating away from home”. Instead, perhaps you always eat like shit when out. Why is that, though…? How much more productive, calm & awesome will you feel if you eat a pound of greens instead of steak and fries.

I always eat a huge, huge salad — that would take at least half an hour to prepare at home — when out. It fuels me for the rest of the day, rather than producing food-coma, and saves time (salad takes 2 minutes). Do you think an energetic, resourceful day is a bad return on $12 spent on going to a restaurant? You can make these simple, small calculations anywhere, with anything.
