Brad, this piece inspired me this morning, and not in the way you might expect.
I love the perspective you shared here in the context of company building. For myself or any entrepreneur, your final request is powerful.
But today as I read your thoughts on short-term thinking, I kept thinking about how this same problem impacts our individual lives, professions, and happiness.
We want it all, and we want it now. Money, time, love… you name it we want it. And we don’t just want it, we think we need it, or maybe we even deserve it.
Building a great life is a creative process. It takes time, effort, and patience to become our best selves. Nike, Harmonix, and Starbucks wouldn’t be the companies they are if they had literally found success overnight from the start. The early years of struggle and creativity defined those companies, their brands, and the impact they are now having on the world.
Your thoughts made me think how similar it is for us as individuals. We will not make it overnight. We will not find peace, love, happiness, satisfaction, and success in an instant. Our characters will be forged through the crucible of our struggles. Our happiness will be sweet because of the sour we have tasted.
Making anything worthwhile takes time. This is true for a company as well as a life.
Thanks for the inspiration, Brad!
