You’re right to slow down your hiring. But not for the reason you think.

Deep stuff Anthemos! Our calculus of what decisions will have the greatest positive and negative impact are so often wrong. We drag our feet on a product change and we rush into a new hire. Some things are easier to unwind and correct than others, and it’s clear after reading your piece how we can easily underestimate the impact of one additional hire (even if it’s a good hire!) and ignore the system level impact of that one hire.

This post reminded me a lot of Jason Fried and his philosophy on hiring and management at Basecamp. I’m a big fan of the way Jason and team view the world, so you’re keeping good company. Thanks for sharing, Anthemos!
