This is America. Don’t catch you slippin’ up

I want to start a new section on my blog in which Iwill share with you all that I know about America and its culture, traditions and rules.

The today’s article I want to discuss the important issue.
As you may have noticed our world has changed since the fifty-eighth presidential election which was held in the United States of America in 2016. Why? It can be explained by significant impact of the election results on the current tense political and economic situation in the world caused by sanctions and politic of the USA government. Two years ago I was curios to learn more about the sophisticated election process. That’s why I did reaserch. Not only do I found information about American election but also I made a comparative analysis of the election of the President in the USA and Russia (due to the upcoming Russian presidential election in 2018).

In the following part of my story you can read what I learned.

What is the power of the President?

USA: The President is a head of the State and the head of the government (the head of the U.S. Executive power with the functions of commander of the Armed forces of the United States).

RF: The President is a head of the State (the Russian President is not part of any branch of government).

What are the requirements to be the President?

RF: The President must be:
- at least 35 years old;
- a natural-born of the Russian Federation;
- have been a resident of the Russian Federation for 10 years.

USA: The President must be:
- at least 35 years old;
- a natural-born citizen of the United States
- have been a resident of the United States for 14 years.

How do the presidential candidates identify?

RF: The first variant is to be a candidate from political party. The second is to collect 20 million signatures of citizens which will prove the unanimous endorsement.

USA: The future candidates are nominated in political parties and then though the caucuses, primaries and national conventions become an official candidates. The candidate can also be an independent person (for instance, George Washington).

What is the kind of the election are used in country?

RF: The direct form.

USA: The indirect form.

Who elects the President?

RF: Citizens of Russian Federation.

USA: The United States Electoral College.

Who have a vote right (constituency)?

In both countries: Person should be 18 years old and must be capable. Sex is unimportant.

Election day

RF: Sunday.

USA: Tuesday.

Is it possible to vote in advance (or in special situations)?

In both counties: It is possible to vote in advance.

What should people bring to the place where the election is held?

RF: The passport.

USA: It varies from state to state but usually it is the document which is evidence that the person has registered to vote.

Person who votes should make a mark opposite the name of the President in a special bulletin.

How people choose the President?

RF: Person who votes should make a mark opposite the name of the President in a special bulletin.

USA: In some state people use computers to vote, but in others — the bulletin.

When the President’s name will be called?

RF: Officially results are known after a week.

USA: It happens after two month (for instance, official results of the latest presidential election was announced

Inauguration day

RF: On the 30th day after the announcement of the election results.

USA: 20th January
